Drunkenness.—For this offence three first offenders were let off with a caution, while another was fined 10/. David Walker was fined 20/ for his second offence within six months.
Refusing to Quit.—John Ritchie was fined 20/ or seven days in default tor refusing to quit the Clarendon Hotel when requested to uo so by the licensee. Uniortunate Children.—Three little girls, .Nellie, Ivy and Jessie Millward were charged with being deemed to be children consorting witu reputed prostitutes. After hearing the evidence of Constable Maher and Sergeant Forbes His Worship committed the children to me Industrial School.
i heft.—Ernest Gallot pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing 1/, the property of Thomas Cooney. Cooney stated that last night outside a boardinghouse in Hobson street, he asked accused, who was on the footpath, if he could get a bed in the house. Accused said he could, and asked tor a shilling, which witness gave him, and accused then ran away. Evidence was also given by Constable Moriarty and Sergeant Egan. Accused denied the theft, but His Worship held it proved, and imposed a fine of 20/ or 14 days' in default. Edward Henry Patrick Nolan pleaded guilty to stealing a pick, value 3/6, the property of '.Vm. -Peak, and was sent to gaol for 14 days.
