TWO MEN DROWNED.

♦ SUPPOSED BOATING FATALITY.

BODIES FOUND IN THE HARBOUR.

Shortly before tM-ee o'clock this afternoon the dead bodies of two men were found floating off the Freeman's Bay reclamation. So far they have not been identified. They appear to be brothers, 24 to 26 years of age. They probably lost their lives during the night or early this morning, the supposition being that they were returning from a yacht anchored further out in a dingy, which capsized. The two men were of dark complexion. They were evidently not fishermen. They wore white woollen singlets, and one had on a grey pair of trousers, the other wearing a blue pair. A handkerchief was kottted round the neck of one, with the initials A. M., and the only articles found in the pockets welKi a sixpence and some shorthand notes. Constable Finnerty was notified of the fatality and he brought the bodies ashore, conveying them to the Morgue where they now await identification.

His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by Gapt- Boseawen, Hon. A.D.C., and '.the Mayor (Mr Alfred Kidd), drove round the city tld«t afternoon for the purjwse of inspecting- the improvements now in progress. The Assessment Court for the City of Auckland sits on Monday next to hear objections to the valuation roll. In all 189 objections have been received out of a total of about 7000 propertiesA Press Association telegram from Whangarei states that last night Mr. X Thompson, M.H.E., entertained the members of all the local bodies in the Marsden electorate at a banquet in the Theatre Royal. About forty were present.
