ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The ordinary (meeting' of the Acclimatisation Society was held on Tuesday in the Museum Buildings, 'Present: Mr J. Buntt (in *he chair), and Me-ssns. J. Hardie, CJ. Bloomfield, A. C. Whitney, C.' E. S. GLUies, T. T. Masefield, and L. P. Nathan.

Bangers.—lt was reported that the cost of rangers during tihe year ended March 12 was £259 18/3, and tfoat amounts totalling-■£ 154 13/ had been paid-to rangers under the immediate control of the Society, while six convictions secured by one ranger had cost £31. The secretary stated that 16 convictions had been obtained by the police, and suggested that the gratuity to constables obtaining- convictions should be increased to £3. On !the motion of Mr Whitney this was agreed to, and the same amount was decided to be paid to settlers or others securing convictions. The sum of £15 was voted to the Thames Society, to be expended for the preservation of gwnie. The Society's rangers were re-appointed.

Game.—A letter was received from Mr Brookes, Churchill, stating- fchat Virginian quail w&re spreading- In that locality, and that trout had frequently been seen in the portion of Waikato River near that district.

Leave of Absence.—lt was decided to grant nine monlths' leave of absence to Mr E. Wig-more.

Committees. — Messrs. Bloomfield, Bull, Gillies, Wihitmv, Nathan, and Masefield were appointed Game Committee for Ihhe coming year, and the Pish Committee were re-elected.
