THE GOLDFIELDS.
ECLIPSE
The return from the I/clipse mine -for the past month-was £ 485 8/6 from 364 tons, of ore.: The ore though of low grade leaves a margin of profit. HIKUTATA GOLD SYNDICATE. This company's five-stamp mill treated 435 tons of ore during March, which yielded bullion worth £364. There are still 113 tons of slimes to be treated. The ore. came from the stopes north of No. 1 rise, -where the reef is fully five feet wide and looking well. MAY QUEEN EXTENDED. A parcel of selected stone from the new reef in the May Queen Extended mine arrived from the Thames today and was on view to-day at the office of Mr J. J- Macky. The stone is of an excellent class, carrying a lot of mineral and showing coarse dabs of gold well distributed through it. The directors intend putting on four additional men so as to enable, driving to proceed, both east and west on the reef, and at the same time continue the extension of the cross-cut, to intersect anything further ahead, as there is. a heavy flow of water fron> the face. KURANUTw The quartz in Barry's lode, which was cut yesterday in the Kuranui mine, carries excellent minerals. When driven upon hillward this lode should improve, as tne drive will enter upon the good class of country striking across the other reef. Several hundred feet of backs are obtainable on Barry's lode, at the point where it w^as intersected. This Company now has three to work upon in the low level.
