SWIMMING.
The final gala iv connection with the Auckland Swimming Club for the season was held in the Albert-street Baths last night There was a good attendance, and much interest was centred in the events. White's String Band was in attendance, and gave a number of selections during the evening. The club officials are to be congratulated for the promptness with which they got off the several races. The handicapper and referee, Mr B. Kyre, is deserving of praise for his success in securing such close finishers in the racing:. Mr A. Goldwater acted its starter, and Messrs J. W. Gittos, A. Smith, and VV. Dickey as judges, and gave every satisfaction. Appended axe the results:— Seddon Handicap, M yards.—First heat: P C Weston, 4Js, 1. Second heat: E- C. O"Hare, 2Js, 1. Third heat: R. o'Ha.re, 4s, L Fourth heat: P. Waxbrick, 4s, 1. Fifth heat: H. S. Hall, 1. Final: &. O'Haxe, 1; P. Warbriek, 2; H. S. Hall, 2Js, 3. Won by 2 yards. Time, 21 l-ss. Boys' Handicap (under 16;, 36 yards.— First heat: R. Kasthope, 1; J. Keah, 2; W. Page, 3. Second heat: F. Sceats, 1; P. Kernott, 2; R. Caffery, 3. Final: F. Sceats, 1; F. Kernott, 2; J. Kean, 3. Sceats won by a. yard after an tinish. Time, 25 2-ss. Ladies' Scratch Race, 103 yards.—There werq only two competitors, Miss Ethel Keene and Miss Doris Townshend. Both swam splendidly for two laps, when Mlsa Townshend retired, leaving Miss Keene to finish alone. Veterans' Handicap. 72 yards.—H. H. Dacre, 1; J. Scott, 2. Also started: M. Scott and Gittos. The scratch man swam splendidly throughout, and going to the front in the last half lap, won a good race by 3 yards. Time, 53 l-ss. . Coronation Handicap. 144 yards.—First heat: G. A. Tyler, scratch. 1; W. Cossar, 11s ° Won by 4 yards, in the good time of lm 395. Second heat: F. Warbriek Bs, 1- E L. Wilkinson, 19s, 2. Won comfortably. Time, lm 595. Third heat: Vy E. Dei van, 12s, 1; S. L. Dickey. 13«. 2 Won easily. Time. 2m 1 l-6s. Final: G. A. Tyler, scratch, 1; F. Warbnck, Bs, i. All the placed men but Dervan started in the final. This event was considered to be the race of the evening, and in it great interest was centred. The pace was good from the start. In the second lap Warbrick went to the front, and kept the lead right up to the last lap. when Tyler. coming strongly, overtook htm, and witn a splendid spurt in the last 20 yards, won an exciting race by two yards. Warbrick tired in the last lap, and came second unopposed, there being no other finishers. Time, lm l-ss. Girls' Handicap, 36 yards (post entries). —There were seven starters, and a good race resulted—Miss Craig, 1; Miss Green, 2; Miss Garrett, 3. All Schools' Boys' Handicap. 72 yards.— First heat: F. Sceats. 9s, 1; F. Keruott, 7s, 2. Second heat: Withy, scratch, 1; R. Kusthope, scratch. 2. Final: F. Kernott, i: R. Easthope, 2; F. Sceats. 3. Kernott went to the front soon after the start, and won comfortably. Time, 61 l-ss.
Boys' (under 16) High Jump or Dive over Rope.—A. Blaikie, 1: Mills. 2. .Consolation Race, 72 yards.—Hall, 1; Sainty. 2: O'Hare, 3. Hall swam strongly throughout, and won by i yards.
A life saving exhibition by the ladies was given during the evening, and they showed great aptitude iv the accomplishment.
