The Victorian Labour Commission commenced sitting here -to-day. Mr Tregear, secretary to the Labour Department, ■was under examination nil the morning as to the work of the Department. Ho said he was opposed to the abolition of Conciliation Boards, and the only material alteration of the system lie would suggest was that mngistrat.es should deal with minor cases as to breaches of awards.
HAWERA, this day
Mr C. E. Major, who has occupied the position of Mayor for many years, announced at the Council meeting last night that he did not intend to seek re-election. The Council unanimously rotcd him a bonus of £50. The Councillors spoke eulogistieally of the good work he had done for the town. Mr Major a.nnouneed that he would distribute the vote among local institutions.
