Mr H. Reynolds' new patent totalisator was inspected during Easter week by pro-
minent representatives of the Manawatu Club, who expressed satisfaction at its working. The machine is absolutely automatic in its work. A full sized one will shortly be tried at a race meeting. At the C.J.C. Easter meeting the following were the principal winning sires: St. Leger, £1390; Clanranald, £1155; Stepniak, £465; Lochiel, £205; Dreadnought, £200; St Andrew, £135: Gipsy Grand and Foulshot £100 each; Chain Armour, £H0; Reflector and Musketry, £50 each; Castor £40; Mannlicher., £25; Vanguard and Flageolet. £20 each; Lakeshell, £15; and Saracen, Perkin Warbeck 11., and Phae-. ton, £10 each. The following were the principal winning jockeys at the C.J.C. Easter meeting: L. H. Hewitt, four wins; J Pine three; H. Donovan and F. Jones, two each; E. Scoullar, T. O'Brien T. Cahill, J. McCluskey, and K. W. King, one each. Mr H. A. Knight has sold Kotokoto privately. The horse has now passed into Mr F. Holmes' stable. Field Battery will in future be trained by F. Davies at the Hutt: 'Petrovna is reported to be wrong again. Competent judges state that the mare is a stone better than her full sister Tsaritza. "Cruciform is the best filly we have se»n in the colony " was the superlative opinion expressed on Mr Stead's mare by a sound judge at the recent Easter meet"mV McGuinness is staying here with Red Gauntlet and Ayrdale, and will leave for Wellington on Friday, where the pair claim engagements at the forthcoming meeting. Vladimir, Noblesse and Lady Rosslyn went home. Pine has been engaged to ride Lady Lillian at Timaru. Canteen ran very disappointingly at the Easter meeting, and appears to have lost for-'m altogether. Smith trainer of Fleka, returned home on Thursday, and left the horse here- in charge of T. O'Brien, who will journey to Wellington with him, when Smith will visit him with Assayer, who Is en-o-i-ed for the same meeting. Fleka is looking particularly well and is going rL Holmes has three additions to his stable in Pimamu, Swirl, the StepniakWhlrlpool mare, and Kotokoto. Grand Chain and Cyclamen are now under D McDonall's care. Bombardo and Turgeniff have been recommissioned. Both are looking well.
Huku is a doubtful starter at the Wellington meeting, and is still suffering from the effects of a fall in the Kildare hurdle race. Double Event is reported to have a splendid crop of foals this year. Mr W. H. Wanklyn being seriously ill was unable to be present at the C.J.C. meeting. It is stated that Mr Knight will try St. Michael over the .hurdles. He does not look a beau ideal of a fencer.
