MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, ETC.

The Christian Endeavour Society in connection with St. John's Wesleyan Church, Ponsonby, held last evening their annual missionary meeting. The Rev. W. Ready presided. The speakers were the chairman, the Revs. W. J. Williams, C, H. Garland, and two Maori students, Messrs Harris and Piper. The addresses were of a very interesting character. The Misses Aspinall and Tonkin, also Mr Peace contributed solos during the evening. A very good collection was taken up on behalf of the New Guinea native mis^ sion, which has been supported for years by St. John's Christian Endeavour^ Society. A singular announcement was; made by the chairman that during the afternoon he had received a message that the missionary had recently died. This was received with much regret. No doubt another native teacher will be appoinwo in his place. . :.
