THE ASSAULT ON CONSTABLE IRWIN

At the police Court this morning John Duffy was charged on remand with assaulting Constable John Irwin by kicking him about the stomach and abdomen, casing him actual bodily harm. Mr Reed appeared for the defence-Sub-Inspector Mitchell asked for a further remand for a week, as he was Informed by Dr. Collins, of the Hospital, that Constable Irwin would not be fit to give evidence for a week at least, and nrobably not for a fortnight. The extent of the constable's injuries did not seem to be fully known; one day he would be reported better, and the next day not quite so well. He was not prepared to tell His Worship that the results would not be serious. Mr Reed, in asking for bail, said that he understood that the aeeusel suffered severe injuries himself. Accused was further remanded for a week, bail being* allowed in two sureties of £200 each.
