Among recent visitors who toured the colony (say_> a Wellington paper) was a party of twelve Americans, who came over to see the new country about which they had heard so much lately. Rotorua folks declare that that party was the most talkative which had visited the region. The Americans visited the Wanganui River, and talking afterwards to a Wanganui man, who was curious to know the thoughts of the visitors about New Zealand's Rhine, one of the party eulogised the river in the highest terms of praise. "Yon can take it from me," he said, " that you have a wonderful river. The beauty of its upper reaches paralysed us— it actuallj-l made twelve Americans shut up their jaws and give old Nature silence! " The Japanese training ships Hi-yei and Konga, which are visiting Ans- j tralia with a number of naval cadets ' on board, reached Thursday Island lately from Japan via Manila. The two ships will come on to Sydney via Queensland ports, being dne at Sydney on April 12. It is expected that they will come on to New Zealand ports.
