THE BAND CONTEST.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I notice in your Saturday evening's paper that there has been much discussion as- to "whether the Wanganui or Wellington Garrison Band holds the title of champion for the present 3'ear, as the result of the recent contest at New ■BBpTnouth. Now, Sir, I cannot see ■why there should be any doubt in the matter whatever as to the Wanganui bandbeing the champions according to the official, programme. The condition under -which the contest challenge shield is. decided is as follows:—The Beeson Challenge Shield, valued at £50, will be held by the band with the highest aggregate points in both test selections, and for music in the quickstep competition. Bands to qualify for test selections contest must compete in the cjuickstep. I will now give the music points gained by the three first bands, not only to show that the Wanganui band has the highest aggregate, but that the Wellington band only holds second place by the narrow margin of one point. Ths points scored by the three first bands are as follows: — Wanga- Welling-- Kaikoral nui. ton. Dunedin. Quickstep 75 66 70 Ist Test 124 128 123 2nd Test 130 130 130 Grand total 329 324 323 By Ihe above it will be seen that the Wanganui Garrison Band holds the Beeson Challenge Shield, and therefore must be the champion band for tlie year.—l am, etc., W.C.C.
