UNIVERSITY SENATE.

DUNEDIN, Monday.

At to-day's meeting of the University Senate the Ad Eundem Degree Committee brought up. a report recommending that Joseph Campbell, M.A., of Sydney, be admitted M.A.; that Augustus Ed. Joseph Aloysius Keogh, Royal University of Ireland, be admitted 8.A.; and that William, Hurst, 8.C.L., Durham, be admitted LL.B. The report was made an order for next day. The report of the Medical Committee was made an order of the day for next day. It recommends that degrees of M.B. and Ch.B. be conferred on Sydney Chalmers Allen, B.Sc, James Hamilton Hall Baillie, B.Sc, James Brough, Andrew John Crawford, 8.A., Colin Huntly Gordon, William McAra, Jessie Clarkson Maddison, and Frank Ferdinand Alfred Ulrich.

The pumping machinery of the Manukau Water Supply Board is to be started by Dr. Campbell to-mor-row afternoon at three o'clock. Passengers by the 2.10 train from Auckland will be in time for the ceremony, and a brake will convey those invited to the Golf Club House on, One Tree Hill.

All those interested in swimmingl are reminded that . the Auckland (Swimming Club's gala takes; place to-night at the Albert-street Baths. The handicap events are likely to be well contested, and special attract tions have been placed on the programme in the shape of a life-saving; drill exhibition, ladies' championship, public schools' championship, and an exhibition of fancy! swimming. Everything possible is being done to make the gala a great sucr cess.

Sir Joseph Ward to-day received a large deputation on the subject of providing improved railway communication in the North, and especially in regard to the completion of the North Island Main Trunk railway. Sir Joseph said during! his trip Nbrth he had been more than ever impressed with the Trunk line being pushed ahead vigorously, and he assured the deputation that it would be completed within the time to which the Government was pledged. ,
