Drunkenness.-For this oftence two lirst offenders were convicted and ruschurged, and a third, who did not appear, was fined 10/. Leonard Craig and prudence Weaver were each lined ** °* seven days in default for a third offence, within six months. John Charles McCaulay was lined 5/ with the usual alterBxce'ssive Passengers.—Arthur Williams was charged with carrying excessive passengers in a hansom cab. JJefendant pleaded that he did so J^finst his wish, but that one of his passengers said he was sure that on such an occasion (the departure of the Contingent), nothing- would be said if defendant carried a third passenger. W.US Worship inflicted a fine of 1/ and co^tb. Window-breaking. - A young man named.Alexander Sims was charged with wilfully breaking two panes of glass, value 8/, the property of Mrs Bell. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Tue evidence for the prosecution was to the effect that defendant was noticed standing in front of Mrs Bell's wmoow at the corner of Chapel and Durham streets, the window being smashed though defendant was not actually seen to smash it. The defence was a denial of the offence, and an allegation that a drunken man did the damage. H s Wor ■?hin recorded a conviction, and imposed a. fine ol £1 and ordered defendant to bay the value of the broken panes.
