A VOLUNTEER SHOT DEAD,

BALL CARTRIDE USED FOR BLANK.

PEILDING, January 20. Ihiring a night attack on Saturday night on a camp of instruction of the Manchester Rifles, Volunteer Percy Crawford, aged 17, was shot dead by one of the attacking party, who by misadventure substituted a ball for a blank cartridge. Deceased was in i tent alone at the time. The) body was not discovered until five o'clock yesterday mcrning. Deceased was a son of Mr R. Crawford, blacksmith. An inquest- was held, and a verdict of accidental death was returned.
