PEACE PROSPECTS.

k VON KUYPER'S MISSION

HIS TERMS UNCERTAIN

' SPEECH BY THE LOUD CHANCELLOR.

FEELING IN BRITAIN

(By Cable.—Press Association.—

Copyright.)

(Received 9.2S a.m.)

LONDON. January 30,

The "Daily Mail" is the only paper claiming to know what Dr. Yon Ivuyper's terms were. He wanted, says this paper, a safe conduct for a Dutch Commission to assure the lighters that European intervention is hopeless and the struggle futile. Dr. Knyper represented the despairing negative attitude of the delegates. who justify their obstinacy by citing that the fighters are still in the field.

Renter's agency says that Dr. Kuyper merely made a tentative suggestion to facilitate the conclusion of the war.

The general feeling in London, however, is that nothing can be achieved Until the Boer belligerents intimate tiieir desire to negotiate for terms.

The "'Times.'" "Standard"' and "Telegraph" denounce the ''News' " intriguing" with the enemy as perilously near a legal oiience.
