HIKURANGI COAL COMPANY

The annual meeting of the Hikurangi Coal Company, Limited, was held in the office of the secretary, (Mr H. Gilfillan), yesterday. Mr S. Thorne George, chairman of directors, presided. The report and balance sheet showed that the directors were enabled to pay the usual dividend for the half year at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum, after making' provision for depreciation. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the chairman said that the increase in the price of coal had been practically forced upon the company owing to the award of the Conciliation Board, consequent on the demands of the Miners' Union. The retiring directors, Mr S. T. George and Captain Smith, were re-elected, and Mr R. E. Isaacs was re-appointed auditor. At a subsequent meeting of tbe Board, the Hon. E. Mitchelson was appointed chairman during the absence of the present chairman (Mr S. T. George), who is leaving the c-olony for a while.
