They hay agreed to sink another 100 feet. The country passed through is g-ood, favourable sandstone. WAIHI CONSOLS. The cutting down of the bore hole is proceeding very well. The bore is about half way through the hard bar, which is 30 feet thick. The manager hopes to reach the bottom next week. _. y HAURAKI No. 2. The leader in the drive is from 1J to 2 inches thick, and when • tested gave excellent prospects of gold. The manager is of opinion that a laxger body of stone is near at hand, as there are so many quartz veins in the country passed through, all of which carry a little gold. KAURI FREEHOLDS. The return from the Kauri Freeholds Gold Estates for the month ending January Bth was £993 15/3. For this return 866 tons of quartz were crushed for a return by amalgamation of £329 15/2, and 906 tons of tailings and 243 tons of slimes were treated for £ 669 ' 0/1, making, the total of all but £ 1000. The tonnage of ore treated was less than, usual owing to the Christmas holidays.
