The gold yield last year was 816,592 ounces, a decrease of 146,597 ounces compared with the previous corresponding period. The return, however, does not include the returns from the various metallurgical works. The Secretary for Mines explains that the falling off was due to the tailings rapidly being exhausted at Charters I'owers, wnere there was a decrease of 82.000 ounces, and to a scarcity of water.
