The officers are showing reliietance in volunteering- for the contingent. One reason given is tliat their action is intended as a protest on account of the withholding- of the pay of preyious contingents.

The Federal Treasurer advances l£ 25,000 as the preliminary expenses of the Federal Contingent. There is likely to be trouble -when Parliament meets at Mr Uarton not fulfilling his promise to consult the House before sending- more troops.
