A novel request was made to the Hawke's Bay Education xioard lately (says a Southern exchange), when, an. application was made( that a' school in the back blocks might be closed about a fortnight earlier for the holidays, to enable the female teacher, who is clerk to the local Road Board, to take her holidays, so that she might devote her time in issuing the local rate demands. The Board admitted tnat tt was an unusual request, but as clerical labour is scarce in the part of the district referred to, granted the application.
