WALES LEGISLATOR.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.,. Hon. C. E. Pilcher, M.L.C, of New •

South Wales, in the" qourse of an interview, said that Federation, if submitted to the people again on the lines of the existing Bill, would be rejected by a large majority of all the Australian colonies, as they are opposed to federation under . the scheme of the existing Act. He predicts that if the Commonwealth Government does not realise the absurdity of the course they are adopting the much vaunted federation will be short lived. The people's confidence in the existing federation has been misplaced. He suggested that in the event of New Zealand entertaining the idea of joining the federation she should make it a condition that the most objectonable features in the existing Federal scheme be modified or altered. The people of Australia do not object to federation, but will accept it if the provisions of the Bill and its administration are repealed or qualified.
