POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY.
This evening at the Opera House the Pollard Opera Company will renew their acquaintance with Auckland theatregoers. "Florodora" will be produced for the first time here. The plot of the piece is one of unusual directness. The island of Florodora is the property of Cyrus Gilfain, whose manager, Frank Abercoed, is in love with Dolores, a scentmaker. The arrival of Gilfain introduces an eccentric old gentleman, followed by six clerks, who proceed to exchange the usual amenities -with the six English ladies who have accompanied Mr Gilfain's daughter, Angela, to the island. Gilfain, knowing that Dolores is legally the owner of Florodora, induces Professor Tweedlepunch, a travelling phrenologist, to endeavour to persuade her that nature intended her to marry Gilfain, and th- professor, in the course of a most diverting phrenologistic seance, proceeds to tangle up all the couples on the stage. Lady Holyrood, .a smart young widow, has designs on Gilfain, the millionaire, and her brother, Captain Donegal, is drawn to Angela Gilfain. The story is carried on in the second act in the ancestral castle of the Abercoed- in Wales, Mr Gilfain acquiring possession by purchase, but the millionaire is eventually induced to disgorge Ms illgotten wealth through the appearance of
the Abercoed family ghost, engineered by the phrenologist, who is disguised as a Welsh bard, Lady Holyrood impersonating the apparition. Early door tickets to stalls and pit can be obtained at Williamson's, tobacconist.
