THE NORTHCOTE ROADS.
(To the Editor.) Sir To anyone travelling over th* Northcote Road the state of the highways must be painfully brought to mind in every sense, the roughnesi of the metal, great boulders, etc., unblinded and roughly strewn. Tha ruts and gutters caused by bad drainage have rendered the roads almost unbearable to travel on. In marked contrast the roads round the Lake, and through to Devonport, are now kept in excellent condition, a coating of fine scoria binding the road metal securely and giving a good smooth surface to travel on. Nothing tend* to retard the progress of a district like bad roads. People will not settle in a district so little cared for as Northcote. The Board apparently ara non-progressive. Hoping something may be done.—l am, etc., TRAVELLER.
