FOOTBALL.
TARANAKI DEFEATS WAIRARAPA.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
GREYTOWN, this day.
The football match between Taranaki and Wairarapa was played yesterday in extremely fine weather. Taranaki won the toss, and chose the west end of the field, having the sun at their back. From the kick-off the play was very even. The Wairarapa wings played well, and although no score was made in the first spell Wairarapa had the best ot the game generally. After a deal of fast play on both sides Hunter, ot Taranaki, scored a try, but O'Dowda failed to convert. The passing on the Taranaki side was excellest, but time after time Rodgers made a good ran, and was not backed up. Tlie second spell showed more hard work. Wairarapa playing well. Hard luck followed them, as they nearly scored a number of -lines, Taranaki stalling off the attack by good play. C. Rogers, Brunton, Diamond, and Jury played well for Wairarapa, and Hunter, Smith, and Humphries showed good play for the visitors. McKenzie had some good kicks at goal, but failed at line kicking.
