SAILORS' HOME.
A meeting of the Council of the Sailors' Home was held at three o'clock yesterday afternoon, at which the Most Eev. the Primate presided. There were also present Captain Clayton, Captain Adamson, Eevs. Budd and Gillam, and Messrs Nerheny, Brown, Peek, Kneen and Coleman.
The Home Committee reported it had no recommendation to make re night porter, as the Council had not the requisite funds.
Mr Peek reported that arrangements had been made for fire escapes to the approval of the City Council.
Captain Adamson said private tenders had been invited for the work, but nil had not yet been received.
Mr Nerheny argued that an architect should be employed and tenders c&lled publicly.
The Primate also considered it would be better to engage an architect.
Upon the question being put to the Council the proposal to employ an architect was vetoed.
Subsequently Mr Nerheny resigned his position as a member of the Finance Committee as a protest against the unbusinesslike character of its proceedings.
Accounts totalling £71 18/ were passed for payment.
On the motion of Mr Peek it was resolved, in order to save an overdraft, to transfer the sinking fund to the open account in the Savings Bank.
