BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL.
Cr. Wallace presided at a fortnightly meeting on Thursday evening. The Water Supply.-The Town Clerk toted that owing to Hie absence from the district of one of the Northcote committee, the conference concerning a Joint water scheme had not yet been held, but would take place the following evening !The other meeting on the loan proposal* Bould probably be held next week. Fixing Road Levels.-Tbe Clerk reporttil the receipt of two tenders for fixing ths road levels. The lowest was from Mr Wilson, engineer to the County Council, who undertook for £lo to fix the permanent levels of three miles of roads pe£ out, and prepare plans. Cr. Keyes said the members of the Wprks CommUtee would accompany and instruct tl* engineer during the work, Ihe matter was referred to the Works Committee with instructions to proceed with the ' Birkdale Footpaths.-A great POjt'on of the meeting was devoted to discu&smg the clearing and forming of footpaths, at Birkdale. -which was eventually left to the Works Committee to be carried out. Rosebery Road.-Speclfleatlons for the forming of Rosebery Road prior to dedication were approved. Birkdale Post-offlce.-Cr. Wallace pointed out that the present arrangements tor the clearing of the letter box at Messrs Riddell's store did not permit of the letters catching the morning mail at birkenhead. The Clerk was directed to write asking the Chief Postmaster to consider the matter Money Order Office.—Cr. Wallace suggested an application for the addition o£ a money order office at Blrkenhead. cr. Taylor said it was not certain that there would be sufficient support to justity it, and this might count against them In future aplications to the Postal Depailaent. After other Councillors had spoken the idea was left in abeyance. Town Hall Site.-On the motion of Cr. Kay the Council decided to sit m coraailttee concerning the question of securing another town hall site. The Works Committee. -As a pi|f-'ttst against the "unfair criticisms by Councilors of the efforts of the Works Committee Crs E J. White and Keyes (chairman) moved that the Works Comalttee be abolished, and that the work ol the Council be in future entrusted tc councillors individually. The motion was opposed by the other members of UK Council and lost.
