HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Hamilton Borough Council met on Wednesday evening, when the newly elected councillor, Mr J. A. Young, took his seat. Accounts amounting to £S5 were passed The Clerk presented the following financial statement: Overdraft at last meeting. £553 17/; amounts passed. £52 0/9; paid since, £90. Total, £725 17/9; amounts received since, £71! 6/1; balance, £652 11/8. The Legal and Finance Committee recommended that a general rate of 3d iix the £ on tho unimproved rateable valuo in the Borough be struck. This will yield a sum of £700, and when added to license fees, etc., the revenue may be estimate^ at £1500. It was considered that this ■would be ample for the Borough requirements. besides allowing for a substantial reduction of the overdraft. The sum raised under the old system of rating was £GOO, or £100 le?s than under the new scheme. The Mayor proposed and Cr. Slade seconded,, that a Sd rate be struck. The motion was carried, Cr. Davey alone dissenting. On the motion of Cr. Sare it was decided to approach t.he postal authorities with a view to having a mail despatched to Hamilton daily by the train which leaves Auckland at 4.15 p.m. and arrives, at Frankton at 11-p.m;
