NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR SWIMMING ASSOCIATION (REG.).

On Tuesday evening a meeting of the Council of the Association was held to deal with many matters that had accumulated during the past few months. There were present: Messrs W. B. Eyre. S. B. Hughes C. P. Luckie, E. N. Ormiston, R Phllpot, K. St. Clair, and H. G. Chevls, the Registrar, Mr St. Clair presided. Awards.—Two applications were received for saving life from peril of the sea. Case No 1 was that of Wynn Rees, who, on the 20th February, 1901, rescued Frank Reid from drowning in Auckland harbour The rescue was effected at night. The club awarded Mr Rees a life salvor's certificate and the bronze medallion of the Association. The. second case was that of D. Sullivan, who, on the 24th July rescued Edmund Johnson from drowning in the Auckland harbour. The performance was undoubtedly of a meritorious description, the rescue being effected at nig.it. while the weather w;as very squally. Mr Sullivan was also awarded the bronze medallion and life salvor's certificate. Messrs Rees and Sullivan are both residents of Auckland, and are the first to be enrolled as legionaries in the "Legion of Heroism," recently instituted by the Association. Amalgamation.—On the motion of Mr Luckie, seconded by Mr Ormiston. it was resolved "That the Registrar be instructed to write, the officer in charge of the' _N T.Z.A.S.A. (headquarters Christchurch) to ascertain how soon this Association can expect to receive the amended rules in final form, and whether this Association can in any possible way assist the N.Z.A.S.A. (Christchurch) in order to expedite amalgamation." ._._/.' Honorarium.—lt was resolved that the Registrar receive for the current year £5 5/. On the motion of Mr. Luckie, seconded by Mr Eyre, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr R. St. Clair for the work that he had done in connection with the j Association.
