At the Police Court this morning, before MrH. W. Brabant, S.M., the boy .James Lowe, the supposed "ghost," was charged with using behaviour in Pitt-street on August 14 whereby r breach of the peace was occasioned Detective Herbert prosecuted and Mr Fitzherbert appeared for the defence. Mr T. B. Arthur, who captured the accused, considered that the boy was acting- a **ghost" at the time. In view of the present "ghost" scare, had the boy, while rushing along the street as. he "did with the upper part of his body colthed in white, met any women or fjirls 1-fi.e result would have been dangerous, and it was because of this; danger that withess captured him. J. Furlong, who was with accused prior to his escapade, said that the boy picked up the singlet he was wearing in the gutter. Accused did not wish to frighten anybody but witness and his companions. The whole thing was a bit of "fooling-." Mr Fitzherber. submitted that there was not a bit of evidence to support the charge. H<* may have been guilty of a practical joke, but to accuse him of threatening behaviour was absurd. If it had not been for the ghost scare nothing would have been heard of the case' His Worship administered a severcaution to the accused boy and dismissed the case on condition that hi. mother entered into a surety for her son's good behaviour.
