POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY.

Threatening Behaviour.—Two men named Walter Freestone and George McCauley were charged with threatening behaviour in Victoria-street. Evidence by the police showed that the two men were fighting in Victoriastreet on Saturday night. Freestone pleaded guilty ahcl said be was to blame for the trouble, while McCauley pleaded not guilty. His Worship considered that both the men were to blame, and fined them each. £1 or 7 days in default.
Case Dismissed.—Two men, Edward Doble and Frank Read, were charged with behaving in a threatening manner in Shortland-street. Evidence by the police showed that the two men were found in the gutter, one on top of the other. Mr Reed, who appeared for the defence, said that his clients bad been roughly handled by a crowd of rowdies and bad been pushed down. His Worship dismissed the case.
Assault. —Samuel McCulougb was charged that on July 20th'be did assaut one George Gamser by striking him with bis clenched fist and kicking him about the body. The constable who arrested MeCulloaigh gave evidence as to the assault. As McCuJlotigh alleged that he was struck first, and as nothing previous was known against him, he was convicted and discharged.
Drunkenness.—Two first offenders were convicted of drunkenness, and discharged with a caution. Another first offender forfeited his bail for not appearing. William Braceman was fined 20/, to be deducted from bail money, while John Hannah was fined 10/ or 48 hours in default. James Nolan was fined 10/ or i 8 hours in default, and George McLellan Broadfoot was fined 5/ or 24 hours in default.
Soliciting Alms. —A middle-aged man named Daniel Carter was convicted of soliciting aims in Queen-street iand ordered to come np for sentence when called upon. Accused said he did it foi a joke.
Breaches of Bj^e-laws. — Robert Noton was fined 10/ and costs for riding a bicycle on the footpath at Northcote.
Maintenance.—Jeremiah Murray was remanded to Oam aru on a charge of failing to make adequate provision for the future maintenance of his unborn child.
Captain Edwin advised for 24 hours from 9 a.m. this day: —"North to west and south-west gale 16 hours from now, glass fall, tides moderate, indications for rain."
