BOROUGH MEETINGS.

GEEY LYNtf.

The ordinary meeting of the Grey, liynn Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs. J. T. Warnock (Mayor), Foster, Donald, Fan-ell, White, Hall, Eosser, Parker, Booth and McMaster. Pollen-street.—J. Carnahan wrote drawing attention to the bad stale of Pollen-street in front of his residence.—Referred to the Foreman of Works with power to act.

Ratepayers' Association.—Or. Parker moved that the resolution refusing leave to the Grey Lynn Eatepayirs' Association to hold their meetings in the Borough Council building be rescinded, and that the permission required be no'u" gTanted.—Cr. Foster seconded the motion, which was carried.

Special Meeting.—The Mayor gave notice to move at next meeting: "That a special meeting be held on the 15th ins.t. at 7.30 p.m., to pass a resolution by special order for the purpose of raising a loau of £2400 for a water supply and drainage, for Richmond Ward, also to pass a resolution, by special order, for the purpose of raising a loan of £6000 for drainage and the extension of the water supply iv Surrey and Sussex Wards." Streets. —The Foreman of Works, Mr. J. Fenton, reported that during the past fortnight the footpaths in Warnock-street and Maxwell Avenue tad been formed; also portions outstanding in Harcourt-street, Crumjner Eoad, and Millais-street. Town Clerk.—The Council proceeded to the appointment of a new town clerk, and considered the applications for the position (reduced from 38 to 6). The applicants were present, and were questioned by the Council as to their qualifications and experience. The number was reduced to four by ballot, and then to two. The final ballot resulted in the selection of Mr. Henry Symons, who was then appointed to the position, the duties to commence on the 15th prox. Cadet.—A ballot was taken for the appointment of a cadet in the town clerk's office, and Mr. W. N. Davidaon was appointed.
