SHOCKING ACCIDENT.

«- : EXPLOSION IN A MINE

TWO MEN SERIOUSLY INJURED

(By Telegraph.-Own Correspondent.)

■WAIHI, this day

A terrible accident has just taken place in the Waihi Company's mine. Two contractors named McNaught and Gibbs were terribly injured by an explosion. • McNaught is frightfully mutilated, his right arm being broken and his face cut, while both eyes are cut and full of gravel. Gibbs is cut about the face.

It appears that they were putting in a moile hole in No. 6 level, at No. 4 shaft, when the moile struck a charge of gelignite, which must previously have been left in the hole.

A terrific explosion then occurred with the effects above stated.

The injured men were carried to Nurse Gilmore's Hospital, but there being no room, McNaught was taken to Nurse Arnaboldi's. house. Dr. Porter and Nurse GUmore attended immediately to the sufferers. Blood was pouring from McNaught; and in this condition he had to be removed.

Universal indignation is expressed at the opposition which has prevented the establishment of a hospital here.
