TWO TUGS WRECKED.
TEN MEN DROWNED.
SYDNEY, July 1
Ballina reports that the tug Protector capsized wliile crossing the bar. Her crew of five were drowned. The tug" has broken up. The tug- Alexander Berry is ashore at Long Point. One man got ashore, but it was impossible to reach the others owing to the big sea running. Four of the crew were drowned. The Protector's crew consisted of the following: J. Lewis, captain; B. Walton, engineer; Vickery, fireman; Tobranson and Phillips, deck hands. The Alexander Berry was insured for £500 in the South British. Four of the crew were drowned and one saved.
The Protector had a passenger, name unknown, drowned. All the crew were married. A huge sea struck her broadside and turned her completely over. For a while she was bottom up, and then disappeared.
