PARNELL AGAIN DEFEATED.
(Newton, 9; Parnell, 0.)
The red and whites met the maroons on No. 2 ground, Mr Blakey being in charge of the whistle. Newton won the toss, and chose to defend the northern goal, with the wind slightly in their favour. Parnell were forced soon after the start. Shortly afterwards from a scrum in Parnell's quarters, G. .Rowe obtained possession, and beating the Parnell defence, or what there was of it, got over the line. Roberts kicked a poster. (Newton, 3; Parnell, 0.) Continuing the attack the Newton backs looked dangerous. Koberts broke away, but hung- on to the ball too long, and the chance was lost. Play was in neutral territory till Clarke, of Newton, secured the ball, and running through the defence, scored Newton's second try. Roberts again failed with the kick. (Newton, 6; Parnell 0.) Hancock made a fine run for Parnell and the maroons carried the ball over the line, but Newton managed to kick into touch. Shortly before the spell ended. Parnell were penalised for taking the ball back over the- line, and Sandall landed a nice goal for Newton. (Newton, 9; Parnell, 0.) No further score was recorded in the second spell, and Parneli held their own better than in the first half. Hancock made another brilliant run for Parnell, which was not supported. Stone made a good shot at goal from the field, the ball passing underneath the bar. The game ended with play in Parnell's territory, leaving Newton winners by 9 points to nil. NOTES. The o-ame though "willing-" enough, was neither exciting nor good football and calls for little comment, Newton as the score shows, did not show the form they showed against City the previous Saturday. In the_ first spell they put on 9 points, but m the second spell Parnell played up better and honours were even. The passing of their backs was not at all good. Roberts was a dangerous as usual, but showed his old fault in passing. Brasch was about the best of the threequarters, and the brothers Rowe also showed good form. Ine forwards were not nearly so prominent as on the previous Saturday Of the Parnell backs, Twiname and Stone were the best. Bob Hancock was quite the best of the maroon forwards, and made a couple of fine runs, which were worthy of a better fate.
