The following cable was received last night by Mr Ryan, of Sydenham, father of the late Lieutenant Ryan: — "Lieutenant Ryan was killed near Wakkerstroorn. His troop went up a ravine to take some waggons that were flying the white flag. The enemy treacherously fired. He ordered' his men to retire. He retired last, and fell a gallant soldier.
