DRAINAGE OF ARCH HILL.
(To the Editor.)
S,ir, —I am very pleased to note in your issue of this day, 25th inst., that our new Board (Arch Hill) are keeping pace with the times, and that it is proposed, to take a vote for drainage purposes. But I certainly take exception to one portion of your statement, ns it has a tendency to do us considerable harm, viz., the vole is to be taken as to whether our district is to be a sanitary one or a fever bed each succeeding- summer. Now it is well know m that for some years past our Board has been working on the progressive principle, that as a matter of fact we, the Arch Hill district, contribute kss fever cases in proportion than most of those districts abutting on to and adjoining the city. But strangers coming to Auckland (and there are a large number out our way) on reading that statement will naturally say: "Let's steer clear of Arch Hill, for iv the summer it is a fever bed. The 'Star' says so." If you will kindly look up our hospital statistics, I think you will find we compare very favourable with other districts, independent < ' the proposed drainage. Nevertheless I hope the ratepayers will go in for a proper scheme of drainage, and keep on the progressive road, then our district will stand second to none, and we shall not be taunted with the fever bed bug-bear.—l am, etc.,
A RESIDENT,
