i WAIHI, Saturday, \ j It is the intention of those inter- ! eating themselves in Audrey's casai not to hold a public meeting- at Waiki, I but to irame a petition to the Minis--1 ter for Justice, asking- for a remisi sion of the sentence and the abolition; ;of the floggings. It is stated that if | Audrey had counsel his case would ! have been properly presented, and ! prhaps a light sentence inflicted, and I that to those acquainted with tha j facts his sentence is out of all propoiv jtion. The petition will be signed, iif possible, by leading- citizens !of Waihi, Karaugahake, Waitekauri, etc., and forwarded to Mr Jackson Palmer, M.H.R., who will be asked t<S present the matter before the Minis--ter fr Justice. In the event of th&' Minister not considering the case, then public meetings will be called, and a petition sent to the proper authorities, asking for a rehearing. Subscriptions will be raised to provide counsel. ,j
