At 4 p.m. the gale increased, the wind blowing with terrific force. At 9 p.m. the fore topsail was carried away, and while the crew was taking in the fore topsail it split. All went well until 2.30 p.ra. on Monday, when a heavy sea. struck the barque, carrying away the bulwarks and sweeping everything from the deck. The bowsprit went, ami with it the fore and rnaintopgallant masts, and aa the gale increased the mainmast snapped off within eight feet of the deck. The ship rolled incessantly, and the heavy sea swept able seaman T. W. Allen overboard.
