THE OPERA HOUSE.
The Josephine Stanton Opera Company repeated the clever comic opera "The Fencing Master" in the Opera House on Saturday evening, and the piece thoroughly delighted the audience. Miss Stanton as Franeesca installed herself as favourite at- once, and her songs were beautifully sung. For her singing of the "Will o" the Wisp Song" she was thrice encored, and for her charming rendering of "The Nightingale and the Rose" she was again loudly recalled. The comic element furnished by Messrs. (Jeo. Kunkle as Pasquino, and Harvey as the penniless Duke of Milan, proved most laughable, and they were recalled again and again for their amusing song, accompanied on the double ba*s and banjo. The opera throughout is an exceedingly pretty one, and. abounds in dainty gems of music. "The Fencing Master" will be re.pea - ed this evening. To-morrow and Wednesday nights "Fra Diavolo," Auber a romantic opera, will be presented, and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Stahl's Oriental opera '"Said Pasha will be staged for the pat time in this "Fra Diavolo" has not been performed in Auckland for something like twenty years. Mr 3wry Hallam will fill the title-role, with Miss Josephine Stanton as Terlina, and Mr J. Clarence Harvey in the comic role of Beppo. The management of the Stanton Opera Company have extended an invitation to the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall to witness a performance at the Opera House during their visit to Auckland.
