SATURDAY'S CUP MATCHES.
GRAFTON, NORTH SHORE AND SUBURBS VICTORIOUS.
Bleak, squally weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon, with the result that scarcely five hundred people ventured out to see tho football at Epsom. Certainly it was not a pleasant outing. The roads, never beyond reproach in the best of weathers, were on Saturday a sea of nuid, while out at Potter's Padslock a bleak northerly wind sent drizglincr showers of rain upon the spectators 011 the grandstand. At the North Short1, where there wua practically no shelter from the rain, the attendant'!' was very meagre. In the first Tadc Cup matches Graf ton scored a somewhat lucky win against Newton on No. 1 ground by a goal from the field (four points) to nothing. Newton had really the best of the gome, but threw away more than one. chance of scoring l)V want of combination. On No. 2 trround Suburbs scored their first victory of the season, defeating Parnell by a try (three points) to nothing; wliile at Devonport the home team defeated Ponsonby by eight points (two tries, one converted) to nothing.
