Mr. Ben Kershaw, who met with an accident at Waihi last week, is reported to be improving. Captain Edwin advises:—"Moderate to strong north to west and south-west winds, glass fall, ordinary tides, indications for rain." . Before Messrs Max D. E?ing and D. Campbell, Justices, in 'the Magistrate's Court, Waihi, to-day, J. Preston was charged, on the information of J. Foley, both .of Whangamata, with obtaining- possession of a horse by false pretences. Mr E. G.. B. Moss appeared for plaintiff, and Mr E. W. Burton for accused. The case is proceeding. Tenders for reinstating a portion of the, buildings in Commerce-street destroyed by fire in January closed to-day. The drawing showed the. tenders as follows: —Sanders & Atthow, £749; A. Grandison, ,£654; Jones and Son, £GSO; John Farrell, £(343; Philcox and Son, £630; T. K. Williams, £615; J. Morris, £600; J. T. Julian, £575; G. Baildon, £574; W. Beakey, £569; R. -Kay. £567; J. Ellingham, '£558; W. Fairweather, £552; A. A. Reynell, £549; J.. W* Leigh, £527. The lowest tender, that of Mr J. W. Leigh, was accepted.
