RACING NEWS.
(By Whalebone.)
The Takapuna Jockey Club's Winter Meeting1 commences on Friday. Given fine weather, there should be. a large attendance at the marine suburb and there is certainly every prospect, of good sport. The fields are in point of quality well up to average, and as hearing- on the North New Zealand Grand National Meeting', the racing' is ■full of interest:. The following- horses will likely run prominently in their engagements: —
Handicap Maiden Hurdles, Tiki. Handicap Maiden Plate, Goitzer or Belfast.
First Pony Handicap, St. Loanda and Orange and Blue. Birthday Handicap, Laetitia and St. Ursula. First Handicap Hurdles, Xoi-'west and Tim. Handicap Maiden Steeplechase, Sylvanus and Freewill; Verdi outside chance. i Royal Handicap, Hastings or Lady Avon. And on Saturday, in the Handicap Steeplechase, Nor-west and Tarragon are most to my fancy. Sylvanus may, however, run well.
