THE DECORATIONS.
At the meeting1 of the City Schools Committee last evening- the Chairman (Mr Squirrell) reported that lie had written to the Board pointing out that the Wellesley - street School was the only primary school on the lino of route of the procession, and requesting the Board to bear a portion of the outlay on decoration. The Board agreed to an expenditure of £ 50, on condition that the Board's architect considered the design suitable.' A design for the decoration of the school was submitted by Mr Percy Holt, and was agreed to. A platform, having accommodation for 200 pupils, was included in this. x\ meeting of tenants of the Victoria Arcade was held this morning in (he Builders' Room, about 2.3 tenants being present. Mr J. J. Holland presided. It was decided to decorate the building, both in front and at the sides, if possible, oa a -design prepared by Herr
Dittmer. A working committee of ten was appointed to carry out the work, with Mr Dixon as treasurer and Mr Burgess secretary. Mr Dittiuer's design is of a very attractive character. A transparency of a marble statue of the lute Queen is to be placed over the SliortJand-strt'cf; corner, and a transparency representing Zenlandia at. the Port-street corner. Shields^ draped with tlujfs, and bearing [<ortrails oi well known Maori -chiefs, will be placed along ilie from oi I lie verandah. Festoon* or' lycopodium v. lIJ Ik1 sc retched from the toji of the building to the edge, ot the verandah, and the whole building will be decked with Jlugs. Other transparencies will be added if the finances allow.
The Auckland Savings Bank promises to present a magnificent sight at the time of the Royal visit. The trustees are spending money liberally on the decorations and illuminations, which have been designed by Mr Dittmer. Over the entrance to the building- will be a huge traspavency representing a Lancer and a Rough Rider, .surmounted by a portrait uf the King and Queen. The whole front of the building will be set oil' with illuminations iv various designs. The proprietor of the Central Hotel and Mr 11. M. Snieeton are having elaborate transparencies executed by Mr Dittmer.
.\lr T. Peacock has signified his intention to decorate his premises, and Mr ('. lienuis to decorate and illuminate.
