So far no particulars have been broTight to light which would tend to solve the mysterious murder of the old German, Henry Schnooi*, who was done to death on Wednesday night in his shop, situated in Clifford-street, Goulburn, (says the Sydney "Telegraph" of May 10). The post mortem examination disclosed injuries to the head of a ghastly nature. One tremendous bIoAV had been delivered from the rear, smashing- in Ihe after part of the skull. There were, in addition, a number of fractures on .the top of the head. The business brought deceased into contact wilh all sorts of characters, and it is thought that the crime might be the outcome of revenge. It is stated that the dead man has a wife living at Tenterfield. As a tram guard was passing the Lloyd Hotel in George-street North at about 1 o'clock on May 10 (says the Sydney "News") he saw a box of pot plants fall to the footpath from an upstairs window, some 30 feet from the ground. The box was followed by a man, who also fell to the footpath, after hanging for an instant on the edge of the window. The Australian Ambulance was immediately summoned, and the man, who was evidently badly injured, was removed to Sydney Hospital. On admission there he was found to have sustained a compound fracture of the skull, his condition being regarded as critical. The cause of his fall is not known, but it is suggested that he was. walking in his sleep at the time. Parents are invited to inspect Smith and Caughey's stock of boys' and youths' mackintoshes, tweed overcoats, coVert coats, and reefer jackets.—(Ad.)
