INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
The Conciliation Board recommends, In the building trades labourers' dispute, that the week consist of 45 hours; that double time be paid for Sundays and holidays; time and a-quarter after lime; time and a-half for overtime; lhat not more than one boy be employed to every four labourers; that preference be given to "unionists on the usual terms; and that employers have the right to employ one or two hands for a half-hour before the regular time of starting in the morning without overtime rates applying. It is expected that both sides will accept the recommendations. The Wellington Industrial Association last night discussed the question of employers having to produce business books before the Arbitration Court. It was resolved that in the opinion of the Association the Act should he amended to provide that all books produced in Court should be for the perusal of the judge only. DUNEDIN, Monday. In the Arbitration Court to-day a Mart was made with the carters' dispute. In this case the employers' objections to the Conciliation Board's recommendations are principally on two points: (1) Excessive competition of carriers who employ no labour; and (2) conditions of work being such that thn time could not be limited as proposed, but must suit arrivals and departures of steamers and trains. The dispute occupied the Court all day, and ■was not concluded. The drivers for aerated-water manufacturers and their employers have agreed to accept the Wellington award.
