PROHIBITION CONVENTION.

WELLINGTON, this day,
The Prohibition Convention, representing the Taranaki, Hawke'a Bay and Wellington districts, will be held at Palnu-rston North on the 23rd and the 25th May. Besides addresses and papers on general subjects, patriotic resolutions, votes of thanks to Lord Roberts, Lord Wolscley, and Lord Kitchener for their services to the temperance cause, will be submitted. Resolutions will be moved in favour of amendments in the Licensing Act, particularly in regard to provincial and electorate option, and the abolition of the reduction vote referendum as to six years' interval from one option vote to another. Legislation regarding the liquor traffic in the King Country, the programme of work for the ensuing year, federation of churches to secure plpdges. and The discountenance of liquor at Social and public functions, and federation with the British National Temperance Council, will also be considered. Among the principal speakers will be Messrs Atkinson, Hutcheson and Pirani (members of the House of Representatives) Dr. Newman (ex-member), the lion. 11. Frnscr, M.L.C.. Revs. E. W. Isitt, Walker. Cr. Hammond. Dewsbury, Prior, Dr. Smith, M; p= Powell, Mr Thornton. Captain Hughes, nnd others.
