THE CITY COUNCIL
The folio-wing matters in connection with the Royal visit canie before the City Council last evening. The Council declined an application from the Royal Reception Committee for the use of windows in the Municipal Buildings. It was decided to. leave the question of decorating the Municipal Buildings in the hands of the Mayor and the Chairman. A letter from the Royal Reception Committee re the strengthening of verandahs in Queen-street was referred to the i Streets Committee, with power to act. . The Reception Committee also wrote i asking the Council to cut a doorway between the Art Gallery and the Municipal Chamber for the Mayor's reception in honour of the Duke and Duchess. The Chairman (Mr Kidd) said he did not think there would be any necessity to cut a doorway. On his
motion the matter was left in the hands of the Mayor and himself.
W. S. Cochrane's application for a permit 1o erect a platform at tbe Victoria Arcade and an application by T. McEwen and Co. for a permit to erect a Maori house on their verandah were both referred to the Streets Committee, with power to act. On the recommendation of the Legal Committee, permission was granted to tfie Royal Reception Committee to erect platforms in Quay-street West, Coburg Place, and on sections in Wellesley-st. The question of a platform in Queen-st. was referred-to the city solicitor, the application to be granted if the opinion were favourable.
