THE ROTORUA GATHERING.

It has not yet been decided (says the Wellington "Times") whether the park at Rotorua will be illuminated during the Royal visit. The new electriclighting plant will be used if an illumination is decided upon. The Premier expects that a large number of distinguished visitors from Australia and other parts of the world will wit; ness the native demonstration at Rotorua.

The Ngaiterangi tribe, Tauranga, intend sending to Rotorua a picked body of 300 men, drilled and specially trained by their chief Taipari, to take part in the welcome to the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. The NgsUiranginui drum and fife band has accepted an invitation to proceed to Rotorua. The Matata Ngatirangitihi tribe is not behindhand. They have a large number of girls practising pois and httkas, and all the dancers will be attired in the old-fashioned and handsome piupiu, or mat- of feathers. The Motiti Island natives find that they will be unable to go to Rotorua, but they are arranging to forward large supplies of kumaras, etc., for the use of the other visitors, particularly the following of Mr T. Parata, who "is connected with them by relationship.
