WELLINGTON, this day,

Mr P. E. Cheal was one 6i , the deputation which waited oh the Minister of Lands to-day on behalf of the Institute of Surveyors. The deputation Urged that in the case of lands resumed for settlement private surveyors should have the work of survey, instead of the preference being given to surveyors temporarily employed by the Government. The Government was also urged to take steps to. secure recognition of New Zealand surveyors' certificates in South Africa.

The Minister, who promised to carefully consider the requests of tlie deputation, expressed his belief that surveyors' licenses issued in one British colony should be recognised in all tlie Others.
