AN EXPEDITION ABANDONED.

LONDON, April 22.
The French-German expedition sent to expel General Liv from a strong position occupied at Huilu has been abandoned, owing to Liv being ordered to withdraw from Huilu. A company of the Fourth Punjab Infantry had ;i severe engagement with thousands of bandits, between Chingwantal and Stiingfa. Major A. Robrowning and a Sepoy were 'killed. Reinforcements have been sent. Fifty thousand Shantung coolies have been shipped at Port Arthur, Niuchwang, and Yladivostock, to replace the Chinese labourers who were killed or expelled iv Manchuria last autumn. Chinese students, incensed at the suspension of their examinations, threaten to burn the official Yamens at Chckiang, and expel the Mandarins. Korea borrows five million yen %o build the railway from Seoul to Wijju, at, the mouth of the Yalu River. . Russia is trying to secure from Korea a lease, of ITeunghai Buy, some 70 miles .norlh of Fnsan.
